Alumni Desk
Among the many establishments in the Tibetan Community in India the Tibetan Home Foundation has been one of the success stories, if we were to tell our survival in exile. With a humble beginning and over these many years through ups and downs ,the Foundation has become a pride for our community as one of the best child welfare and education center. This has been made possible solely because of the continuous blessings and guidance of His Holiness The Dalai Lama, the sympathy of the people and the Government of India and of course not to mention the kind hearted humanitarian support of our sponsors and various organizations, which have been all through and continue to do so. Last but not the least, the dedication and the commitment of the staff members both past and present cannot be forgotten. It is because of these facts that today we are talking in the terms of Alumni and its potential.
Although we had always desired and welcomed contacts with our old students but for reasons of our other more pressing problems and priority needs, not much effort could be made in this context. However, after having depended on the goodwill support of others for so long, many of our friends are asking on the role of our old students and what they help to contribute. This is often an embarrassing question to answer and it may also be the same to our alumni but as the signs on many highway road reads "Better Late Than Never" this may also be applicable in our case. And so at last an Alumni Desk!
Objectives: The objectives of the Alumni Desk are to develop and promote a close and mutual understanding between the Foundation and the Alumni to evolve a framework and perspective for cooperation and developmental programs thus helping to achieve the overall goals and missions for which the Foundation was establishes and to see what the Foundation can still do to assist any Alumni, if in need.
Functions:The Function of the Alumni desk will be a two way process -keeping the interest and the involvement of our Alumni on one hand and on the other to highlight the development, progress and the present need of the Foundation. The initial work of this desk will be the hard task of collecting past student’s data and the other information through whatever old records available with us. When once this is achieved to a certain extent, the desk will start communication with all alumni traceable and then gradually build up a strong Foundation of close contacts and mutual trusts.
With the view to achieving the objectives, the Desk will share information through publications and periodicals about the out-going developments in the Foundation. In addition, it can prepare proposals for urgent needs that keep arising in the foundation for funding sources. Another important function will be to see to the welfare of an Alumni if in distress or in need. Other subsidiary functions will be to organize meetings, get together of Alumni, and contacts between Alumni to Alumni etc. The Alumni Desk can also help set up the "Alumni Association" in your area if there are sufficient numbers of ex students.
