Tibetan Homes Foundation, Rajpur

The Tibetan Homes Foundation branch at Rajpur began as a small school in the year 1977 and initially was called the "IM-School" as SOIR-IM Sweden sponsored the seed money. Rajpur itself is a small town located on the foothills between Dehradun and Mussoorie. It is about 8kms from the main city Dehradun.

THF Rajpur began in the form of a "kindergarten day school" for about 25 children with a small dispensary especially meant for the Tibetan refugees settled at Rajpur. The school gradually grown over the last three decades with children, hostel facilities and classes. Along with the school other facilities also developed in Rajpur. The overcrowding of children at THF Mussoorie was turning out to be one major difficulty with continuous new children arriving from Tibet.

A project of a new "SOS - village" comprising of 14 family homes, kindergarten, dispensary, community house and a recreation room was inaugurated on 4th of October,1999. The children at the village for their educational needs attend the existing Tibetan Homes School in Rajpur, which is a 10 minutes' walk from the village.

The major expansion of the school was completed in the year 2000 with the total support from SOS Kinderdorf International. At present, the school is a higher secondary school with affiliation to the Central Board of Secondary Education in New Delhi. Students after completing their high school were transferred to Tibetan Homes Foundation Mussoorie for their senior school.

Programmes:

Education:
Imparting education is the foremost mission of Tibetan Homes Foundation as a whole. THF Rajpur comprises of a Montessori section where infants in the age group 3 to 6 were given admission following the main school with classes from 1 to 10. Students were transferred to THF Mussoorie to pursue with their senior school.

Family Homes: Hostel "A, B, C and D “were the four hostels at THF Rajpur where senior students stay. The capacity of each hostel equals "100 to 110". However, due to recent influx of small children, Hostel "D" was adjusted to accommodate small children with the strength of only 22 children. There are 14-SOS homes in THF Rajpur with each SOS having 14 children looked after by a foster mother.

 
 

Dispensary:

Tibetan Homes Foundation, Rajpur have one small dispensary with 5-paramedical staffs. One visiting doctor is available twice a week where major cases are referred to the city hospital.

The total strength of children for the year 2010 at Tibetan Homes Foundation, Rajpur equals "539" and staffs equals "93" including teaching, non-teaching, office, dispensary and other staffs.

Retired Staff Quarter:
Tibetan Homes Foundation have been able to provide the much needed housing accommodation to our retired staffs who have served all their lives with dedication for the care and education of our children. As a social security for these staff members and for the new upcoming staff members, the construction work for retired quarters began on the 4th of October, 2000 under the kind support from "SOS Kinderdorf International". It comprises of 14 single quarters, 24 family quarters, a community centre, a stupa and a community shop with its inception in the year 2002.
