SOS Vocational Training Centre

Highlighting the importance of Tibetan arts and crafts is the Vocational Training Centre (VTC) section of our foundation. The centre provides technical training to children in different Tibetan crafts with its inception in the year 1965.

Tailoring course:
The tailoring studies has course duration of four years with a three year term at different specialized sections. Of the three the first one is the Tibetan traditional stitching section wherein the children are taught the technique of stitching the Tibetan traditional dresses. The second section includes study on various casual wears used by people now a days and the third section provides study on sweater knitting and apron weaving. The fourth year is spent on specialization on the three different courses. At present with more and more needs of Tibetan traditional dresses a wide opportunity exists for the children completing this course of study.

thangka-painting Thangka Painting:
The thangka course is a study of five years specializing in the painting of Tibetan Gods and Goddesses. Other than the deities various traditional objects are the subjects of the Thangka painting class. The course begins with pencil sketching in the first year and gradually children begin using paints and brushes. In this section minute details have to be assessed and examined while painting. In Tibetan Buddhism Thangka paintings hold immense importance in the day to day lives of Tibetan people. The opportunity with this study is also very bright.

Modern Oil Painting: modern-oil-painting
This is a four year course. The focus of the training is to train students in creative and modern oil painting. The students are taught to sketch portraits, landscapes, and any other subject of their likings. Here too the basic art begins with pencil sketches.

Once the children master the art of sketching and painting they are encouraged into creative arts. Vocational training centre is an asset to Tibetan Homes Foundation for all the school uniforms of our children, School cultural dresses and sportswear, curtains, pillow covers etc were stitched there. Moreover, Thangka's prepared at the centre were used to honor our staffs on their 20th year service ceremony with a citation by office and were also used to present gifts to our visitors, sponsors, donors etc. In addition to normal children under our care, we have three disable children who are taken care and trained at the Vocational training centre respectively.
