Cultivating Excellence in Education

At Tibetan Homes School, Dekyiling, we believe that the continuous development of our teachers directly benefits the students. Under the Teacher Professional Development (TPD), our 25 dedicated teachers are actively involved in enhancing their skills and expertise. Led by our committed school headmaster and One TPD coordinator, the project is designed not just to uplift teachers but to create a ripple effect that positively impacts every student. At the start of each school year, we launch the program with an Orientation cum Workshop facilitated by our TPD coordinator, setting the tone for the year ahead. Together, we collaboratively chalk out plans that introduce fresh ideas and innovative teaching methods aimed at fostering critical thinking among students.

Key Highlights of Our TPD Program:

  1. SEE Learning Integration: Promoting emotional and ethical learning across subjects.
  2. School Head and Peer Observation: Encouraging open feedback and professional reflection.
  3. Book Reviews & Article Reading: Expanding our knowledge base through diverse literature.
  4. Skill Enhancement Sessions (e.g.,Computer Skills for Teachers): Equipping our staff with the tools necessary to thrive in a digital age.

Every initiative is implemented through a series of workshops and practical activities, often featuring expert speakers. The highlight of our TPD is the regular Sharing and Reflection Sessions, where teachers exchange insights and learn from one another’s experiences. Moreover, our school receives generous support from the Department of Education, Sherig, enabling us to organize a wide range of TPD projects. Our Teacher Professional Growth Plan is more than just a training program—it is a commitment to nurturing a future generation of critical thinkers, compassionate leaders, and lifelong learners.

Professional Growth Plan (PGP):

While our Teacher Professional Development (TPD) program promotes collective growth through collaboration, Tibetan Homes School, Dekyiling, also emphasizes individual improvement through the Professional Growth Plan (PGP). The PGP is tailored to enhance specific skills related to teaching and learning, allowing each teacher to choose an area for personal development.

At the beginning of each school year, an Orientation on PGP is conducted by the TPD coordinators to introduce the process. Teachers are then asked to submit their PGP plan and action plan, outlining the skills they aim to improve. They are given ample time to reflect and select areas of growth that align with their teaching goals. Some of the topics chosen by our teachers include: Improving Reading Skills, Learning Tibetan Languages, Classroom Management, Teaching strategies etc.

Teachers engage in their PGPs during their free time, seeking guidance from books, senior teachers, and mentors. Throughout the year, the progress is carefully monitored. Quarterly sharing sessions are organized by the TPD coordinators, where teachers share their experiences, discuss challenges, and reflect on their journey. At the end of the year, teachers come together again to review their progress, share the strategies they used, and reflect on whether they achieved their goals. This continuous cycle of learning, sharing, and reflection ensures that each teacher grows both individually and as part of the larger school community.
